Gorgeous Glow Smoothies

30 Apr

I think most of us have figured out that what we put into our bodies affects the outside, our skin.  There are so many amazing foods that can make a huge difference in the health of your skin and the easiest way to take advantage of using multiple super foods at once is to…make a smoothie!! Smoothies sound especially nice during this time of year when the weather is getting warmer and we are showing more skin; here is a recipe for a smoothie I made today to not only quench my thirst but also to indulge my skin.

  • Strawberries- All berries are a great source of antioxidants which I am sure everyone has been hearing about for a while now. Antioxidants protect the skin against free radical damage, aid in anti aging and prevent further damage to the skin (1 cup sliced).
  • Spinach Yes it sounds weird to put in a smoothie but spinach is rich in Vitamin A which is essential in fighting the effects of aging. As long as you do not use too much, you will not taste it but make sure you take the stems off (1/3 cup).
  • Avocado These are rich in fatty acids and phytonutrients that have many benefits to the skin including anti inflammatory properties, antioxidants and they aid in cellular repair. It adds a nice creamy texture to the smoothie and again, you can not taste it (1/2 of 1 avocado).
  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar
  • 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder
  • nonfat milk

Fill blender with all ingredients except for the agave nectar because you may not need it. Pour in the nonfat milk so it just barely covers the ingredients in the blender and blend. Taste and add agave if needed. It is not the prettiest smoothie but it tastes great and is AAMMAAZZING for your skin. Other foods that are great for the skin and should be incorporated into your diet are:

  1. Grapefruit: Full of Vitamin C which is essential in anti aging. It slows down the break down of collagen which keeps the skin firmer longer as well as contributing in evening skin tone.
  2. Tomatoes, cantaloupe, plums, any berries: All rich in antioxidants
  3. Carrots and broccoli: Vitamin A and we all know carrots aid in a glowing complexion!
  4. Walnuts and Salmon: Omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation which can be inflamed acne, or just overall red, puffy skin.
  5. Flax seeds: I personally do not like fish so I like to sprinkle flax seeds on just about anything, they are a great source of essential fatty acids!

These are just a few awesome foods to aid in gorgeous, glowing skin. Eat them alone or mix them together, they are the super foods that will allow yourself to maintain a youthful, healthy glow! Also, remember to drink lots of water!
